MIGHT CONTAIN SPOILERSFirst, let me say I like games that are challenging; I do not like games that are unfair, and 99Vidas - The Game feels like the latter. I played levels 1 through 3 where I've been stuck so far, and there's where I found out the gameplay mechanics and level design are simply unbalanced towards the players.Let me start by saying that if you're playing two players the game, instead of easier, is more difficult, the amount of enemies increases, but the amount of healing itens and 'money items' do not increase, which means each player has less resources to deal with more threats. Enemies do not drop anything, meaning you have only so much to work with. Also, I don't really understand why, while playing with 2 players or more, if one of them dies he cannot come back if one of the players still clears the stage; it seems counter-intuitive; it's unnecessarily punishing to have one of the players permanently out of the game in this case.On the other hand, some of the enemies are borderline unfair. Strong enemies, such as the first tigers, are not presented alone, to help the player manage their threat and then increase in numbers. The lack of i-frames upon being cast on the ground is also another problem.

The boss Espirro can easily stunlock the player endlessly because him throwing the baby and his sprint towards you are faster than your recover animation. The boxers running attack deals an unfair amount of damage, and it's worsened by the level design where they're presented first; the train car has no items that will top off your HP, and there's a random chance there will be two or more onto you, that spells almost certain death. The ninja is not unfair, it's a great fight, it's what I'm rewarded when I defeat him that bugs me.

No healing items and the introduction of a new mechanic that can potentially kill me; again, this mechanic should be introduced in a safer environment, but instead it's introduced after a mid level fight, when it's quite probable the player will have low HP.Still talking about enemies, D.Grace is also an odd case, I have a feeling her reach is always longer than the player's, which means she can always hit you when you cannot hit her; that's also frustrating. Some game design decisions also seem odd and unbalanced. Needing to strike a combo to finish a boss EVEN WHEN IT HAS 0 HP is unnecessarily punishing; it encourages the use of combos, I get it, but it's hard when the rest of the game does not seem to do the same. It's easy to get your combo broken by an enemy that approaches from behind you. Best strategy I found so far was to hop around kicking. Not collecting ups when in the level is also weird, instead you have to buy them on the store. That's just what I can think off right now. It's far from detailed, but I thought this piece of critic would help the devs. What do you guys think?

I was actually planning on posting a similar thread today. I've been trying to collect my thoughts, but I'm glad another person feels the same way as me too! And you nailed it, this is exactly how I feel about the game so far.I like difficult games, but 99vidas is not hard ♥♥♥♥♥.the difficulty lies within the mechanics of the gameplay.-The main characters we play are much slower than the enemies, attacks and movements. I feel the characters need to attack much faster, at least on par with the enemies. Many times I've had my combo broken because of our slow animation speed.
This leads to 'cheesing' the entire time by doing jump+kicks to knock them down and not enough time to perform actual combos.-Invincibility frames when you get back up, I feel this needs to be exteneded because more often than not as I'm getting up I get hit with another attack/grab.-Another thing, they need to knock you down faster if you get hit. The stunlock time is ridiculously long, you're pretty much immobile for 2-3 seconds. They eventually knock you down, but it seems the time is further extended when another enemy comes along and hits you, pretty much a sitting duck. This also ties in with invincibility frame time as well.-Balancing of enemy damage, at the moment I feel they need to be toned down on certain enemies.
Seriously, one grab from those big dudes and almost half of your health goes down. This is all from a singleplayer experience, normal mode. I totally agree with both of you.
The gameplay is unbalanced. You found the perfect description for the difficulty of this game. It's not just a good challenge, it's unfair! And this part of your analisys, @Brudda, describes why I'm not playing it anymore: 'entire time by doing jump+kicks to knock them down and not enough time to perform actual combos'.The most frustrating point is that this game was created because of a brazilian podcast called '99 Vidas' which was originally about old games and nostalgia. They admire Streets of Rage, TMNT, The Simpsons, Final Fight and others, but apparently they didn't compare their game with those once finished.
There some bad mechanics and other elements that take the fun out of the it.I hope they will patch it soon. I've been playing level 6 for a while now. Found yet another ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t enemy: the football players have no recovery animation after using a slide tackle; it makes impossible to punish them if they miss or you dodge it. That's not enjoyable.
This game would really benefit of either a block button or a dodge button that gives you some i-frames, because it's litterally impossible to get through a stage without taking any damage.I'm really dissapointed, because I played the demo and it was rather enjoyable. I feel like the game designer instead of thinking 'how can we make this game fun' went Dark Souls 2 style and thought 'how can we make this game hard'. All that was while playing on normal, I do not mind the Hard and Hardest setting to be slightly unbalanced, but normal being this unbalanced is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t.
